You have a point there. A word that can only be a racist insult is hard to stand up for, unlike "cunt" which simply means the same as many other lesser swear words.
However, I'd rather have it available and choose not to use it, than have it totally Collingsed (OK for you Keir?). And apparently it's now become a colloquial term of endearment amongst the streetwise yoof, so these things go in cycles.

Funny to see the discussion of the C word here, I was just listening to Jarvis Cocker's C***s Are Still Running The World.
Another C word is Collingsed, which I just made up and want to spread, I was writing about the Rev Peter Mullen's blog which has been taken down by the church because it was full of shit hateful jokes about gays and muslims, and it just came to me, I said that I hadn't actually seen the blog for myself because it had been Collingsed by the church.

Of course I support your right not to be insulted or abused at work, and indeed your right to complain about this.

I totally agree on the whole, although I'm not sure political correctness enters in to it. I was prepared to apologise for my use of the word on the grounds
that I had inadvertently insulted every woman on the face of the planet (although apparently not the case, which is nice). If I had, then surely it would be reasonable to ask for the
word to be banned. If a word has enough cultural, social or historical resonance to cause widespread insult, then banning it could only be a positive thing. The word nigger for example, has enough baggage with it for most people not to use it. Surely you don't think that language is poorer as a consequence.

Oh, I assumed it was Conservative. Or Cameron. :) I do use *the* 'C'-word for affect if I am seriously teed off...but wouldn't use it around people I knew would be offended. That ain't 'PC', that's just being polite!
