My wife was out for the whole day working and the kids were being looked after elsewhere, so (aside from dropping off and picking up Phoebe from nursery) I had the whole day to myself until 5 (when I’d have to do dinner, baths and bedtime alone). But it was mainly taken up with admin, upgrading the broadband (BT Infinity has arrived in the village, which excites me more than anything in the world), trying to get someone round to fix our new dishwasher (it seems that everything is managing to break down in the first few months, which is better than them breaking down when they’re just out of warranty) and trying to find someone to mend out hit and runned front wall (which looks like costing us about £500, so thanks a lot mysterious stranger ), just the kind of expense that probably makes it not worth claiming on the insurance I’d guess.
And I pushed on with trying to book the new series of RHLSTP and letting Dripster and Badgers know who we’d got so far (as well as trying to institute tension and rivalry between those two groups that will hopefully end in internecine war. I will be revealing who we’ve got so far to the non-paying scum in the next day or so. It’s shaping up to be a good series if I can get all the people who’ve said they want to do it.
I did a couple of five minute runs (one on the way back from nursery in the morning and one to nursery in the afternoon) and was pleased with how easy they seemed (though one of the nursery mums saw me running and assumed some kind of emergency was happening and offered me a lift)
But then at 3.45 I realised I had 75 minutes to myself and that I had time to get back to the old green board for the first self-playing snooker frame since the first part of 2017.
It was a bit of a practice one really, as I tried to remember how it worked, realised I’d not got my snooker scorer and struggled to do any shots from the top cushion as my desk was in the way (also the board is sloping a bit and loads of balls ended up in the top right-hand pocket), but at least we were all back at the coal face. It turned out to be a somewhat controversial frame, but you will have to listen if you want to find out why on British Comedy Guide or iTunes
But the board is up permanently and relatively accessible, so I am hoping to make this a weekly occurrence again.
After all this running and sporting contest I was pretty tired when the kids were back in my care, but it’s frowned upon to fall asleep and let them bathe themselves. I managed it and to get my wife’s dinner on the table by 8.15pm, just after she returned from her long day at work. It’s the 21st Century now folks and if you don’t like it, go back to the 1950s. (secretly can’t wait for Brexit so that my wife has to do all the baby stuff and cooking again - thanks so much Nigel).
