Phoebe not well enough for football. Hooray! I am delighted my daughter has been ill (she's pretty much OK now) because I got to do another Park Run. There was a minute's silence beforehand which I found unexpectedly moving. Even just 400 people standing quietly is an unusual thing to experience and there was real emotion in there.
After a week of proper exercise I was in a position to post my best time of the year (admittedly only about 5 runs) and knocked over two and a half minutes off my last week's time and came home in 27 minutes and 28 seconds. Which is a bit more like it, but still a reasonable distance away from the sub 25 minutes I did two years ago.
But it was an easy run and I felt fresh at the end, so maybe if I can do these more regularly I can get back to the levels of fitness of my early 50s!
My weight has been more or less plateaued for a week or two, but took a dip today and I am now almost 11kg down in just over 3 months. But I am also not overly concerned about what the scales so. In the past, like most dieters, I've got frustrated by seemingly inexplicable weight gain after I've done everything right and then counter-intuitively thought, "What's the point in even trying?" and taken that as a cue to eat rubbish again. This time though the ups and downs don't really matter to me, as nice as it is that the figure is trending downwards.
So far Zoe has been working fantastically for me and still feels sustainable. As with the last couple of Saturdays I had a meal away from home this evening and though I do bear in mind which foods I should avoid and make healthier choices when I have an option, you're allowed to eat less high-scoring foods occasionally and I very much enjoyed having a roast dinner with three different meats and amazing roast potatoes at our friends' house. I don't want to eat food like this all the time, but it's a lovely treat and I cleared my plate. My appetite has been so small that I sometimes struggle to do this now!
I also had a couple of dog walks to add to the exercise regime. I noticed that the Airtag that Wolfie has on her collar was missing and so checked my phone to see where it was. It was showing as being somewhere up the hill so I headed towards it like a technologically advanced pirate seeking treasure. I arrived at the place it was indicated, but couldn't see it. I made the tag play a sound and it did exactly as instructed, but I couldn't work out where exactly the sound was coming from. Every time I moved closer to where I thought it was, it would appear to be in the other direction. There was loads of grass and foliage so it was somewhere in there, but my old ears couldn't pick out where the chirruping sound was coming from. I thought that it was maybe over the fence (though how Wolfie might have got over there, I wasn't sure) and so I tied the dog to the fence and climbed over. But from that side of the fence it sounded like the Tag was on the other side of the fence. I kicked stuff around a bit and then decided to go back. Wolfie was moving around a bit and somehow on the way back over I managed to get my foot tangled in her lead and fell to the ground. It was a soft landing and aside from the fact I was wearing smartish new trousers no harm was done. But my foot was still caught in the lead and high up in the air. I tried to untangle it, but that made the lead tight round Wolfie's neck which made her move and so I couldn't do anything. I tried to undo the lead from her collar, but again same problem. I thought I might be stuck here for ever, on the ground, with my leg in comical traction.
There had been quite a few walkers around today, but luckily no one was there to witness this. This meant there was no one to help either. And I scrambled around in the dirt, trying not to break my leg or strangle my dog, until I finally found a way out.
I searched for the Airtag for five more minutes, but could not locate it. IU will come up with my sharp eared kids tomorrow and hope they can do a better job.
