Friday 14th April 2006

I decided to accept that I am ill and have the day off. Even though Good Friday (the day that Tom Good from the Good Life was crucified by his snooty and irate neighbours for caring about the environment and so on, only to rise again three days later in Ever Decreasing Circles)) is a day off for traditional people like you who work in banks (which is what I imagine you all do, with your humdrum lives) comedians NEVER have a day off. We are ALWAYS working. Trying to find stuff that is ridiculous or satirical in this crazy world. You might think I spend most of my time drinking coffee, watchign TV and playing online poker and getting drunk with a succession of beautiful girls. And you are exactly right. But believe me that is very very hard work and it's not surprising that I am exhausted and ill and spotty despite being nearly 40.
So I took a break even though I have loads of work to do and watched TV and played internet poker, but DIDN'T drink coffee or get drunk with beautiful women. So it was a very different kind of day. I watched the first five episodes of the second season of Lost which I have magically got earlier than any of you because my life is not humdrum like yours. It's really good so far.
The important difference is I didn't do these things whilst worrying about all the stuff I should be doing so I could enjoy them properly.
And at the end of the day I felt just as bad and looked just as ridiculous as I did at the beginning. I think this might be a permanent state of affairs now.
Happy Easter everyone.
