I dropped the kids off at school and then Catie and me headed to the station as we were going into London for a brunch date. You have to grab your time when you can and Catie was gigging tonight, so we made some time in the morning (one of the many benefits of self-employment). We were going to Dishoom, the amazing Indian restaurant in Kings Cross with a fantastic breakfast menu. And it was so awesome and comparatively easy that I am thinking of coming here for breakfast every day. Everything was delicious and the omelette I ordered scored pretty highly on the Zoe app and I also had the (for this month) rare treat of buttered toast. The coffee was strong and the omelette was spicy and my date was strong and spicy and it was an oasis of calm and love.
We walked to Oxford Circus, stopping off to buy a gift in Heals. It's a posh shop full of stuff that I'd mainly only buy for someone else (though we got our bed here and as expensive as it was, it has ended up costing us only a few pence a day and is one of the best things I've ever owned. Heals is a good place to stop off on a day trip to London even if you don't want ridiculously expensive furniture, as it has really nice toilets. You can just look around and pretend you want a £1500 chair, then change your mind and use the facilities for free. Take that Ian Heals.
As it was we did make a purchase and the assistant told us we'd just hit the amount that meant it could be delivered for free. But the price he told us was almost half what we were expecting to pay. He'd failed to ring up the most expensive item. We were about to use Ian Heals toilets and steal tens of pounds from him. It was payback time.
But I cannot tell a lie (on this occasion for some reason) and I let him know he'd made a mistake, for which he was pretty grateful.
After a trip to the Apple Store I bid my wife adieu and headed home as I had lots of prep to do for the weekends gigging and had to walk the dog and put the kids to bed. I was much too tired to do a Twitch of Fun. Maybe next week.
And more exciting bookings for London. Adam Buxton will be at the Leicester Square Theatre in March (it sold out pretty much as soon as I mentioned it on social media, but add your name to the waiting list) and Joe Wilkinson and Ross Noble are joining me at the LST in November.
