A whole day to get some work done, but time slips through my fingers so fast - not that it was a wasted day, just one where I was easily distracted.
I went for a swim in the morning, impressed to find I could keep going for 32 minutes without stopping. I was in a lane on my own, but still obeying the swimming direction sign in case anyone else got in, so I was annoyed when after about 20 minutes of needlessly keeping to the left a man got in at the other end and started swimming directly towards me. He's obviously one of those pricks who likes to divide the lane into two if there are only two people in it, I thought, which is all well and good until a third person gets in and you can find yourself in a potentially awkward position of swimming into them. I carried on swimming under the keep to the left system, but he wasn't budging. I did a little sign language thing to indicate the direction of swimming, but he looked back at me as if I was mad. And then I realised that in fact the sign in the lane I was in (unlike the two lanes on either side) was actually advising swimmers to keep to the right. I had to apologise. The man looked a bit smug. He had obviously thought I was one of the "two people in a lane equals two little lanes" idiots. I felt like a fool.
But according to Fitday I had burned up an impressive 320 calories, so my humiliation was worth it. And there must have been a few more used up too as I spent most of the afternoon carrying redundant technology from my attic to my hallway, ready to be loaded up and taken to the dump (where it will be recycled). It's mainly just great displacement activity. I can convince myself that I am making a more comfortable working environment for myself, but I am actually just avoiding working.
Then I found a complete script of all the sketches we'd filmed for Fist of Fun series 1, including the edited out and lost sketches. So obviously I had no choice but to start scanning it and sending it to Chris Evans (not that one) for inclusion on the discs (series one wil be available from
Go Faster Stripe in the next couple of months (it's not going in the shop, we've bought it, at not inconsiderable expense, from the BBC ourselves - if it goes well and we don't lose our shirts we will hopefully bring out TMWRNJ too). Fist of Fun series one has four discs and includes the whole series, four of the entire studio records, a couple of unbroadcast sketches, commentaries and interviews, the Lee and Herring live video and loads of PDFs of scripts etc. It looks like being a thing of beauty. You'd better all buy it!
And in more exciting Star Trek based phone news I got the 4OD app on my phone today which is incredible. I watched an episode of Time Team on my phone! Which is surely the fogiest thing you can do with new technology. It still astounded me. I love the future.
