My wife and I went for an (admittedly gently paced) 50 minute run today, down over fields that I’d never been to before (though it started in my stone field - though of course I couldn’t tell my wife about my secret other life). We went just over 6kms, though five or six years ago I was basically running that many miles in the same time. And even more recently have come close to running 5km in under 25 minutes on the Park Run, but Park Runs have, for some reason, stopped happening.
I am undoubtedly a lot less fit than I was, but was pleased to have managed it nonetheless. I allowed myself to break my September resolution and had my first Solero in over two weeks. But it’s OK, I can give them up any time.
It was good to do something with my wife that wasn’t parenting or collapsing into a sofa because we are both exhausted from parenting. Though to be fair, the running didn’t really sort out the exhaustion - not in the short term anyway. The sun beat down on us, but the scenery was pretty and though I was knackered about halfway round I got a second wind and ended with a sprint.

Yesterday BT had texted me saying that they had detected that my wifi signal was weak in some places so they would send me a new disc to extend the range if I wanted. I wasn’t sure how they knew this, or how they would be able to tell - how do they know where my house begins and ends. Generally it’s pretty impressive (my Twitch set up is about as far away from the router as you could get but the signal is strong) but it’s true things do drop off a bit in the kitchen (which is way closer).
I wondered if the text was spam and nearly didn’t reply, but sent back the required YES and waited to not give them any info if they rang me.
But the disc arrived with incredible speed today. I haven’t set it up. It’s hard to find anywhere in the kitchen to place it (especially as it’s not meant to be next to other appliances. Really I am just freaked out by some automated system being able to work out that this thing was needed and getting it to me so fast. I suspect a human being wasn’t involved in the whole process til it was put into the hands of my postman.
It’s probably monitoring me. Not that it needs to. I am already monitored. If I get free tech then I am OK with that.
