We bought a reconditioned spin bike so we could pretend we're going to have time to exercise through the next weeks/months/years. Although it was used we were promised it would have been checked and fully working, but annoyingly the seat was stuck in the lowest position. OK for me and my short legs, but not so good for Catie who has normal length legs.
It was impressive enough that we'd got this delivered, but I didn't have high hopes of it being picked up to be repaired. And didn't really want to waste more time without it.
I emailed the company, not expecting much, but they got straight back to me and a technician FaceTimed me to help. I suspected that he would reveal I was an idiot who hadn't understood how the button worked, but it turned out that the part was broken. He said he could send me another one if I could get the faulty piece off, though this would mean breaking off the plastic knob and removing the thread.
Desperate times call for desperate measures and I decided I would have a go at this myself and essentially break my new bike. So I got a hammer and a screwdriver and tried to smash off the broken piece. It took quite some force, but I did it. Only in destroying find I ease, but this destruction was also mending the bike. And probably the most exercise I was going to get out of the thing.
All this palaver ate into my work time and as usual just as I got through blogs, podcast ad records etc and settled down to try and do some work on the book, my time was up (we split Fridays), but if I can get five or six chapters done by the end of April I think I can still hit my deadline.
You know how I work by now. It's crazy that I have done a tenth of the work when there's still six weeks to go.
But usually I don't have to cope with a pandemic or look after my own kids for so much of the time. I'd never have had them if I thought they would take up this much time.
