Hold on to your hats readers, I have a largely unsubstantiated rumour about Jimmy Savile for you. It's something I had heard about in the past and then totally forgot about, but just remembered. It's not going to make you think well of him and might well corrupt your childhood memories of a public figure we all loved.
Jimmy Savile used to cheat on his marathons.
I know. It's unbelievable isn't it? And will surely bring a whole heap of shit down on his head (though if you think about it there already was a big heap of shit on his head, given his head is buried in the ground, which is- as I understand it- mainly made from poo). I wouldn't like to be Jimmy Savile's reputation now this has got out.
Obviously I don't have any real evidence of this and it's based mainly on word of mouth and supposition, but apparently we don't need to bother with the due process of law any more and someone writing something in a blog is proof enough. But what I heard is that he used to run the first bit, then stop, get in a car (or an ambulance in some versions) and then get driven to near the end of the race where he'd get out and run for a bit.
There must have been people in colluded with him in this, who drove him around, who didn't reveal the truth. Perhaps they thought they were helping an old man raise some money for charity, but they were hoodwinking us all and allowing him to carry on with his evil, non-running work. And when I tweeted about this a lot of people tweeted to say they had seen it happening or had been in a race where they overtook him three times, but he never overtook them. People knew. People stayed silent.
And you have to remember that if he'd run a complete marathon rather than just running a bit of it then he would have been really tired at the end. Too tired, I would argue, for him to do any other crimes. Rather than helping him not to run marathons, those people should have insisted he run a marathon every day of his life -maybe two - and then who knows how different the news stories would be now (and how much more money he would have raised). Everyone is guilty of letting him get away with this.
Though I suspect Savile might have come up with a way to inappropriately fondle other runners while he was running. There was no stopping this man. And the dangers of making paedophiles run marathons are a) that they will become fitter and be able to chase after their victims and b) that they will be able to run away from the scene of the crime.
I am trying to get the papers to write about this marathon lie travesty but they don't seem to be interested. Like there is something more important going on. But this Marathon scam is surely the worst thing Savile did. No one offered me a car when I ran the bloody Marathon.
This is my second attempt at writing this blog - my computer froze after I'd nearly finished the first one. Savile is such a pervasive force for evil that he has managed to travel into my computer in ghost form and fiddle with stuff even there. But I won't be silenced by what I imagine a ghost Jimmy Savile might be doing. You must know the truth. He probably didn't run all those marathons. And yes he was old and it was more of a PR appearance thing than anything, but what I say to you is if he's lied about that, who knows what other stuff he might be lying about?
Let a man pretend to run a marathon and you never know what the repercussions of your actions will be?
