I've pumped up tyres (still inflated) and mended sinks (still not leaking) but today was my greatest work of all. A few weeks ago Phoebe had written her Christmas lists, one for us and one for Santa. She had put a lot or work in, even noting down serial numbers for the specific Lego sets she wanted. She didn't want us or Santa to make a mistake and get her something slightly wrong. Catie took photos of the lists, but we then misplaced them.
Today Phoebe found the lists and whilst it was OK that ours were still in the house, she was very concerned and upset that Santa's was still here. It should have been with him by now. How was he going to find the specific toys in this short a time frame. Why the Hell hadn't we sent them to him as promised?
I had to think fast. My daughter is nearly 9 and this will likely be the last Christmas where she fully believes in the creepy old man coming down the chimney to give gifts to kids (if you are 9 and reading this - he is 100% real). She enjoys the Elf on the Shelf magically moving round the house each night, but made one comment last week that suggested she thought it was possible that me and her mum were doing it. I mean, she must know that, but has chosen to suspend disbelief. Tonight she said she wanted me to buy a special glove that would allow her to handle the elf without it losing its magic. So who knows what she really thinks?
I'd be happy to let her know the truth about the Elf, because I think she's buying into the game (but then she did still want that glove) but I don't want to ruin Santa for her. So when she found the letter I had to think fast and think fast I did.
"Don't worry," I said, "I scanned the letter and emailed it to him. You don't have to post it any more. He's got it on his computer."
Crisis averted. She bought it. Or chose to buy it. Whatever, she was satisfied her list was with the big guy. And I had saved the day.
The day where she has to face the unpleasant truth is yet to come. Maybe as she reads this entry over my shoulder as I write it.

More snooker tonight and a lovely Name That Tune. Watch here  Prize no longer available. Watch live for chance to win prize.
