Well, well, well everyone who thought they somehow knew the truth, turns out she was keeping quite because she was dealing with some difficult personal news (oh yes, I know some of you are doubling down). I was not immune to speculating or wondering what was going on, but I did enjoy the fanciful nature of some of the stuff that people were latching on to. The BBC logo had apparently turned black a few hours before what was going to be an announcement of death- because the BBC likes to give little clues to upcoming news and journalists are famously reluctant to be the ones to break stories. Again, flags were at half mast ahead of that same announcement (that weirdly didn't come) because again, if you're keeping a big secret then you do like to let everyone in charge of flags know a few hours in advance that something is coming.
Of course in the absence of information and when you feel something is being held from you, you do start to fill in the gaps, but it's amazing how quickly speculation turns to fact and theories turn into conclusions. Would a family under the spotlight be able to cover up a death or a murder? I mean historically it's a family that is not above knocking people off and even occasionally not even acknowledging a death - the princes in the tower, possibly, but again there's some speculation in that - and undoubtedly Prince Philip personally murdered Diana in his fiat, but even then there was no chance that the media weren't going to immediately report her death.
It was interesting that so few people speculated on the most likely reason for someone to be acting secretively and doing dumbass stuff with photos, that the missing person who'd just been in hospital had perhaps found out something was wrong and needed some time to process that and let her young children know what was going on.
Clearly it's a family that has a lot of secrets and clearly this is the double-edged sword of being in the spotlight that comes with having all the palaces and power and maybe they are the prisoners of their own power and we should feel sorry for them in spite of all their privilege. Also we paid for them so we should know everything straight away obviously. I want it on the news every morning when King Charles has had a shit.
I am not a Royalist, as you may have spotted, so I am not really getting into all that. It's just fascinating to me how quickly the fanciful rumours became cemented as fact and mildly amusing how quickly most people have gone from accusations to feeling a bit guilty.

Still, we should end the monarchy now. Not for us, but for them.

Last chance to get your name in the Ball Back show programme (and if you donate £25 or more you will receive a printed copy - we're only printing up one box this time, so these will be super rare). Any donation will receive a digital copy of the programme (as long as you leave your address) and make sure the name you put for the donation is the name you want in the programme. A few anonymouses out there, so get in touch if that's a mistake and one of them is you. I am paying all the production costs, so that's already £2388 for Movember (plus gift aid).
