6215/19145

Our kids slept in until after 7am and this extra bit of sleep gave me the energy required to look after them all day long as Catie took control of Christmas preparations. We played with their new toys and it only took me 15 minutes to make the 3 piece top hat that came with Phoebe’s new magic set. I tried to teach her some of the tricks but for now she was happy to put some foam rabbits in it and then say “Pretend there is nothing in there” and then reveal that it was full of rabbits.  It’s essentially what magic is, I guess.
Amazingly a bit of sleep meant that I didn’t find chasing after these two all day long too exhausting. Or at least it was bath time before I suddenly felt a bit weary. It’s all about sleep. The cruelty of being a parent of young kids is that is what you need and are denied the most.
I took them both to the rec, though sensibly decided to drive the short distance in case it rained, or they pooped or it got dark. It was an OK diversion until someone pooped. I won’t embarrass him by letting you know who that was.  But luckily I had brought the car so was home soon enough to clean myself up.
We played Frozen 2 charades which was a bit hard to play and which my son mainly tried to ruin by scrunching up the cards and stealing the pieces from the board. He is 28 years old.
I think I had the easy half of the draw as the new toys were cool and kids weren’t too naughty. I have always said that the perfect age for me was 4, so I am in my element hanging out with my daughter (at least for another month and a half) though I find my son a bit childish.
I think Christmas might be fun. Been ruminating about whether I will have a drink, just a week off getting through the year. I think probably not, though I was thinking that if Santa’s whisky got drunk then that wouldn’t be me drinking it… and in the new year if Me2 drinks then that’s also not me. It feels both a shame and a blessing to not have a drink over Christmas. But I am not sure I’d have the energy to deal with the kids and a hangover, so I might have made the right choice.
