Dressing gown. Battlestar Galactica. Countdown. The Wire. A kakuro. Apart from catching up on my blogs and doing a quick email interview I didn't do anything resembling work. Or indeed chores. Or exercise. But after nearly two weeks without a day off I just needed to drift into a waking coma. I was pretty much wiped out and just vegetating on my sofa was, for one day at least, living the dream.
But I've got nothing for you. Nothing at all. Which seems rather an apt way to complete 7 years of blog writing (tomorrow is the 7th birthday of Warming Up. I have documented every day of one sixth of my life, which is a freaky thought). For seven years I have been weaving crap out of nothing, so it's fitting that I should have nothing to write about.
It's such a long time. So many words. A remarkable achievement or a waste of time? Or a remarkable waste of time?
I know it hasn't been a waste of time. Starting this blog was the first step to pretty much everything I am doing now. Without this blog I would not have got back into stand up, or written many of the routines I have come up with, without it I wouldn't be doing "As It Occurs To Me" or have been able to write "How Not To Grow Up". It was a turning point for me, but clearly one that shows these things don't happen overnight. Seven years later and things are certainly in a happier and more successful place and if you've followed from the start then you'll know how the struggle has slowly led to rewards. Where will we all be in another seven years? Will I still be doing this? Will you still be reading it? Who knows? I don't suppose I really thought I'd have created over 2550 consecutive entries when I sat down to write the first one.
Yeah, whatever grandad. No one is impressed by grafting. They want overnight success. And how many of those 2550 days did you spend sitting in the dark watching TV?
Get a proper job.
And tickets are selling well for the Lyric Hammersmith gig on Sunday, with Jason Manford, Jack Whitehall, Shappi Khorsandi and a special TV star secret guest (who I am really looking forward to seeing live).
