Still blighted with this annoying mild dizziness. I think it might go away with a decent night's sleep. But when's that going to happen?
We are taking a mini-break to Belfast this week, mainly (I think) so Ernie can visit the Titanic Museum and also to have a look at an island that Catie's side of the family once partially owned (sadly rather a long time ago). And given that we live a short taxi ride away from Luton airport and you can fly to Belfast in less than an hour, it was a very long day of travelling or waiting to travel.
As we had our lunch at the airport a man recognised me. "You're Charley, aren't you?"
I told him I was not and amazingly the kids didn't rat out my true identity. "You really look like him," the man told me and I had to resist the temptation to tell him that like Charley I also only had one ball.
I am pretty sure my dizziness is ear based and so was hoping that the flight might sort it out by making my ears pop, a bit like how you can cure amnesia by a second bump on the head. But if anything the pressure made my dizziness worse. Who'd have thought it?
We got to our Air BnB which seemed pretty good value for a four bedroom place (Catie's mum and dad are with us too) and then went out looking for some food, as we were all frazzled and hungry. The pizza place recommended on google maps had closed down so we eventually tried out Madame Pho's which had replaced the doomed pizza joint and was having a soft opening. Some of the waiting staff had been working there for only two hours but that didn't lead to bad service. If anything just over attentive. Five different people brought us wipes for the kids who were having chicken wings. We were possibly going to leave the restaurant having made a profit if we could get all of these wipes out of there,
I was keen to get to bed asap, but as I was plugging in the kids devices the plug got tripped and every plug in the house stopped working. I thought about just waiting to the morning, even if that meant no ipads for the kids, but my mother-in-law's hearing aids needed charging too.
I searched for a fuse box, which took me quite a long time, before it was located above the door to the kitchen. It was quite old and though all the switches were still on, there was a weird dial thing that I thought it was best I didn't touch. Luckily the owner came over pretty quickly and with help from his dad on the phone identified that weird dial as the thing that needed to be moved and we had power again.
I got to bed eventually, but of course couldn't fall asleep for ages. As always will need a holiday to get over this holiday, but on the plus side the kids were pretty well behaved and patient, so we've reached a stage where we can travel with relative lack of trauma.
