Managed to keep the Terminator 2:Judgement Day Pinball playing down to about an hour today. Everything might be all right. At least until the Addam’s Family one comes out. Then that’s me done.
It was Me1’s turn to go out for the run today and as the Royal Parks Half Marathon is only 17 days away (feel free to sponsor me here) the distance was upped a bit and the run extended to encompass Putney bridge at one end and Barnes bridge at the other. It’s about 10.6 miles, so only two and a half miles less than the real thing. Last year before I thought of getting the Mes involved in running (seeing them as more of just a snooker kind of thing), I ran this race in a very disappointing two hours 37 minutes, two years before it had been a more respectable 2 hours 15, though ten years back I could manage a half marathon in about 1 hour 55. I am hoping to be sub two hours on the day.
Me1’s form has not been too good and his early pace was way off what Me2 had managed in the shorter run last week. But Me1 always fights and even though he struggled early on, he settled in to a comfortable and enjoyable pace of around about 9 and a half minutes a mile. That would translate to a time just over two hours, but if Me2 is able to maintain his 8 and a half minute mile pace then we could be going for a world (Richard Herring based) record. And whatever happens we look likely to take at least half an hour off the terrible run time of 2013.
I even managed to take a couple of phone calls during the run, but to be fair it was Me1 doing the running, leaving me free to chat. It was encouraging that this distance was relatively easy and pain free. But I’ll be interested to see how Me2 does over the same distance next week, before making my decision about which Me runs the race. There’s everything to play for. Except sanity.
Perhaps a little unfairly on Me1 I decided to do a snooker podcast this evening, just as his old bones started stiffening up and muscles aching. Me2 had had the whole day to relax which surely put him at an advantage when the players got to the old green board. Somehow the fatigue affected everyone involved though. I made loads of mistakes in the intro (though luckily these will be edited out by my producer Terry) partly because I had foolishly eaten some almonds just before I pressed play, which caught in my throat. No one seemed capable of conversation, the commentary was weak and the snooker playing was awful. It was the best one ever. You can hear it here. Remember you must listen to every second of every frame. You can’t just dip into it where you feel like. This is a war of attrition and no one can win. Apart from whichever Me is the best of course.
Don’t forget, RHLSTP returns on Monday with a spectacular opening combo of Mark Gatiss and Katherine Ryan. Unbelievably still a few tickets left for this. Use if or lose it! . The podcasts will be free on both audio and video this series. Support us via badges if you can. Enjoy if for free if you can't. Or don't want to.
