Sunday 28th November 2010

York City, the most magic football team there has ever been (who honourably do not use their magical skills on the field of play) have, for the second year running made it to the 3rd round of the FA Cup. I think this year we could go all the way, but that was all dependent on who they end up playing next. I listened in to the draw on the radio on my phone as I had a coffee before the Lyric gig. I didn't have headphones and was a little self-conscious that I was blasting out sound like an inconsiderate teenager and consequently a bit distracted. All I heard was York being drawn away, but I hadn't caught the home sides name and they didn't repeat it. I couldn't find the info on the internet so I used Twitter and dozens of people got back to me to say York would be playing Bolton.
Bolton are currently the sixth best team in the country according to the league tables, whilst York rest exactly 100 places behind them in 106th. It doesn't look too hopeful. And yet it's good news in many ways for the club as they have nothing to lose (except the match), might subvert expectations and whatever the result it should be a lucrative match for a team that could really do with the money. We've killed a few giants in the past.
But in reality the tie is as similar as me going head to head with Bolton comedian Peter Kay in the DVD charts. But you never know what might happen.... I think we can be pretty confident that Bolton are going to win both contests.
But let's root for the underdogs! And if you could somehow arrange it so that my DVD sells better than Peter Kay's then I will be very grateful. I might buy you all a bungalow - (one to share not one each).

And the 2012 goals keep coming in - each day giving us a mental image of the average Warming Up reader - student/writer, single, slightly overweight dreamer. I wonder what could possibly attract you to my blog.

A C "25th of Nov. is about a month after my submission date for my PhD, so realistically being a doctor would be good. More ambitiously, using that PhD to have a more permanent academic position somewhere, or to have had the thesis accepted for publication."

A S "My Goal for the 25th November 2012 - I'll finish my studies in Summer 2012 so I'd love to have a proper job in a Library by then. My goal then would be to organise an event where I can silence a heckler by the traditional librarian "pssst"."

B P "I want to be a mother. I'm 36, single, a primary school teacher and I live in rural Wiltshire. I like intelligent men who have a crude sense of humour, and are not intimidated by women who like sex and animated conversations about politics and religion. I rarely meet these sort of men in my day to day life - I think my work is cut out regards finding a bloke I fancy enough to breed with. I've decided that I don't have to be someone's biological mother. I'd be happy with adopting. I think I'm going to start the process after Christmas - it might just be the right timing for the end of 2012."

A H "By 25 November 2012 I'll be 48 years and 1 month old, unless I've succeeded in creating the youth-serum I'm working on, in which case I hope to be in my early 30s. Thus far my experiments on the snails in the garden shed have been unsuccessful, but I'm persevering. Otherwise I'd like to finish this song I've just started writing."

H H "In 2012 I will be 30 years old and (hopefully) a qualified doctor. So I just have to stay alive and pass some exams. Obviously I'll try to go to the gym and all that other stuff too."

J H "On 25th November 2012 I intend to set off on my 729th consecutive daily walk. Two down, seven hundred and twenty seven to go. I haven't failed yet."

C P "My aims for the 25th November 2012 are four-fold:
1. To perform stand-up comedy, an unfulfilled resolution for the past 2 years
2. Write something and get it made, either on TV or as a comic
3. Leave Europe, I've only been to 4 foreign countries (Holland, France, Ireland and Italy) and I want to see more of the world and ideally leave my home continent.
4. Lose weight and get in better shape, yet another resolution I regularly fail to achieve
I'll be happy with 3/4 done. Thanks."

M H "By November 2012 I'd like to be in university, happy and off my medication. Hopefully I'll be through this hell that is studying for A-levels on my own. "

J D "By the 25th of Nov 2012 I would love to be able to say I've been sober since the the 25th of November 2010 and that during that time I have treated my wife the was she deserves to be treated. That is like the amazing woman she truly is."

G W "In two years time I would like to have achieved three things: getting some kind of writing published, give up smoking and shooting a baboon through the lung so I know what it feels like to kill a man."

I am really enjoying these. Keep em coming.
