My Vaio died this afternoon. Some say it was because of a broken heart. Others because the button to turn it on and off entirely fell off, making it impossible to use The actual on off button had fallen off already, but I could still turn it on by pressing the little bit of electronics underneath. But at some point today that bit fell off as well, and whilst a computer whizz might be able to make the computer turn on and presumably I could get at the hard drive if I really needed to, but there's no real need. I think I have got everything I need off the old machine.
Indeed I had just to say got my old iTunes ID off it this morning, which means I can access the music I bought from the iTunes store. And then, almost as if the old girl knew her work was done, she topped herself in my bag on the way home from the gym.
I should be sad, but I just feel relieved that for once I managed to lose a computer without losing everything on it. It's time to move on. And now I have a back up hard drive for my new computer, so hopefully I am as protected as I can be from any other possible disasters.
I spent the whole evening tidying up my house and trying to create some order out of the chaos. Things look a whole lot tidier and I think I managed to get things into places where I will know where to look for something now. But I was considering what to do with the videos that line my lounge shelves. I have over 100 probably and yet I have no video player, so maybe it's time to go to the charity shop and see if they will take them off my hands. It seems like an awful lot of stuff to jettison, but then again I am unlikely to ever watch any of them again and if I did I would only be appalled that they were not of the quality of DVDs. And how sad to think how much money I spent buying these videos (some of which I never watched) and how quickly (like my Vaio) they have become almost obsolete.
But then again if they are being replaced by something better, then who cares? Bring on the revolution. DVDs are ace. Nothing will ever replace them! No... it won't. It won't.... Will it?
No.
