The bloody thing has only gone and started. Though not for me as the Underbelly doesn't open until tomorrow. I had my tech though. I had two hours allocated to go through all my cues with my operator. I arrived 15 minutes early. We were done before the alloted time had even begun. We just needed to sort out some lights and the mic and for me to explain that there was one CD to play as people walked in, one to play to introduce me and one to play when I had finished.
I also did some work on trying to cut the show down. I think I may have made it slightly longer. I will have to be more brutal tomorrow. I think one of the routines has to go, but still live in hope that just by taking a line out here and there ten minutes might magically evaporate.
I think I'll get away with running over for a day or two.
Apart from that I have been treating Edinburgh as a health spa, did about 80 minutes in the gym today and walked up the hill to the venue and eating nutritious food. No chips with salt and sas yet - in fact the idea makes me feel queasy, but I am sure that it won't be long before I am drunkenly stuffing fried Mars Bars down my gullet. It would be lovely to come out of all this fitter than when I started and it's great to be settled in one place, with a gym in easy reach. You never know, I might just keep this up. I am determined to make the most of my days this year and see some shows or do some writing, rather than living a nocturnal life.
Having said that I am just about to head out to do an after midnight gig at the Pleasance Dome, so maybe my sleep patterns shall be disturbed.
But can't go too crazy. First night tomorrow and I want to make it a good one. I don't think I have ever felt so calm and prepared before a first night in Edinburgh. It can only go worse than I am anticipating!
Hope to see you there. Remember it's cheap tickets for most of the first few nights (or two for ones), and if you come to the first or second ones you'll get in for a fiver! And probably see stuff that people won't get to see later in the run.
