I have to tell you that you people are the best. You really are. I like almost all of you a lot. Not only are you donating like idiots to the Christ on a Bike programme fund, (and please give something if you haven't already - it's really going to something wonderful) but also already a bona-fide journalist had given their baking to my campaign to make "persistent as a herring" an everyday phrase. Thanks Annette (although apologies to Terry cos it's not so great for you). Come on movers and shakers, make this a phrase. I don't even want anyone to connect it back to me. I will never mention it again. But work your magic my beauties and let's get it into the lexicon of the English language.
I was a little under the weather today though - maybe all the shouting at York City yesterday had fucked me up, or maybe just coming to the vinegar strokes of the tour had allowed illness to overcome me, but I was feeling a little croaky and unsteady and not entirely looking forward to the 220 minute drive home overnight.
But I had decided that I was going to attempt to get home after my second Leeds gig, rather than drive home in the morning and worry about making it back in time to get down to the studios for "Have I Got News For You". It feels like a vitally important gig to me. If I can do well tomorrow night it could make all kinds of difference to the way things are going. I had been reading the papers and the internet for most of the day in preparation.
It was kind of relaxing to be in the same place today though and even though my life was (as ever) not being easy, it was good that I had time to think and relax and enjoy some nice Yorkshire fish and chips.
Only five more gigs to go on the tour and a big TV commitment tomorrow. It feels like everything is warming up nicely. A good tour, a good TV slot and a nice reception to the new book - who knows where all this might lead? There's something in the air my fine friends. Thanks for your part in that vapour.
