I finished the rehearsal draft of YCCYF this morning. There may be a few more alterations to be made during the rehearsal week (which starts on 13th February - filming commences on the 19th), but that finally is essentially it. I have finished the writing on this long and laborious project. I managed to knock off 17 pages from the last draft, which is quite impressive, especially as I added some new bits. Even so it still hasn't quite sunk in that this is really happening or that I've completed this difficult script at last. It's going to be a fun month I think.
I think I hate the husband in the Centreparks advert more than anyone in the world. Simply from the part of the advert where he and his wife are discussing her adventures on the water-slide. We see a pink bikini top floating in the water and the wife says, "losing my...."
But her husband butts in to stop her finishing the sentence and says, "dignity" and then pauses briefly before smiling smugly at his cleverness. But why has he interrupted her? She wasn't going to swear. She was going to probably say, "bikini top" which isn't anything to be ashamed of. So why has her husband stopped her from finishing her own sentence? In a way saying dignity is a lot ruder than "bikini top" because he is implying that showing her tits accidentally is undignified, which implies (at least by the logic of a long term partner) that her tits aren't all they could be. Uncovering them would not cause people to remark on their beauty, but feel slightly disgusted.
If I was his wife and he'd said "dignity" to me like that, I would have looked at him for a second and then say "no bikini top. Why did you feel it necessary to stop me saying those words? You'd have to be an incredible prude to think that that was an offensive statement. I hate you. And by the way my bare tits are pretty fucking nice still, given I have had two kids, so if you don't like it you can fuck off!"
Maybe she did say that, but they cut it from the advert.
If it was bikini bottoms in the water and she'd said, "and everyone could see my..." and he'd then jumped in and said "embarrassment", then maybe he could look pleased with himself for both his wittiness and him having stopped his wife blurting out the word "cunt" on an advert. Though admittedly there would be a danger that his wife would be annoyed that her husband thought her genitals were an embarrassment. But some people will manage to turn any statement into an insult and she would be in the wrong to be angry this time.
Anyway the whole advert makes me furious and would almost be enough to make me vow never to visit Centre Parks, but there is a part of me that is tempted to go because the advert has subliminally planted the idea inb my head that the water slide there is so fast that it causes women's bikinis to fly off. So I am going to book a holiday there and just spend the whole time sitting by the waterslide watching and waiting.
