I don’t know if I just got lucky or if Shepherd’s Bush Green Post Office has decided to make an effort at last, but today’s queue was only 9 people long and I was through to a counter in just over 5 minutes. I mean it’s insane that I am impressed with that. But I am impressed. And slightly disappointed because it made my live post office queue tweeting pretty dull. Well done Ian Post Office. I believe you will never let me down again.
I am really trying to gear myself up to do some work (and touring apparently doesn’t count for me), but it’s proving difficult what with one thing and another. Today I managed to get round to hastily cobbling together the 7th episode of the Lord of the  Dance Settee podcast, taking us only as far as last month’s gig in Birmingham, but discussing what it’s like to be touring and away from my baby. I think that was an unusually eventful period of touring and less remarkable stuff has happened at recent gigs, so I might be able to catch up in the next couple. But if you want to know what it is like on tour for a comedian who is nationally-known but not on TV very much then check it out or subscribe on iTunes. I am hoping these podcasts might draw in some extra people to my tour shows, but suspect they are only of interest to super-fans, as the man on iTunes annoyed by the 5 mins of my whistling backstage that I mention in this podcast, might attest to. But then part of me thinks maybe numbers are holding up due to this little bit of publicity (I am not getting much elsewhere). Who knows?
And I put most of that together whilst looking after the baby too (though to be fair she was mainly asleep). My morning of child care bought me some time to do work and chores in the afternoon, but even with the lightning quick trip to the Post Office, I didn’t get any writing done. I had plenty of energy though and remarkably Phoebe slept through a good chunk of the night, so I might be reaching a point where I can get back into working (again, is touring not working? What’s wrong with me?) and exercising again.
I made dinner and we sat and ate it while watching Game of Thrones. Phoebe was meant to be asleep, but she wasn’t settling down tonight, so she joined us and didn’t really stop grizzling about she was sitting in the crook of my arm, seemingly watching the programme with us. I don’t know if she should be exposed to naked bums and dragons at this age (I was going to put breasts in that list, but actually babies are the core demographic for those and it’s the rest of us who shouldn’t be so obsessed with them), but I really love it when she’s sitting with me like this, hugged into me. And she seems to like it too. It’s the epitome of contentment.
