Thursday 25th June 2020

Thursday again. I didn’t even mention that it was Thursday last Thursday and it still feels like Thursday was only yesterday. How is it always Thursday? And yet we’ve only been doing this for three months. I am not falling for this fake calendar bullshit. You don’t get 45 Thursdays in this short a time.
I managed an early morning stone clear and returned to the original and best format of audio only. It was chapter fifty-fix. What a milestone. I chased the dream of Twitch superstardom and forgot what stone clearing was all about. I hope you can forgive me.
One kid at a time, after these 1000 Thursdays of lockdown, is an actual delight. I dropped Phoebe off at school and then had a morning with my son, who is a right royal pain in the arse when you’re attempting to homeschool his sister, but is a lot of fun (and surprisingly good) when on his own.
When no other cars were around I gave into this demand to beep the car horn and he shouted “That’s so funny!” with the kind of glee that only a 2 year old can muster. We went for a scoot on the basketball court, but even though it was only 9.20am the sun was too hot and we gave up and went to the supermarket instead. I was dreading taking him with me in lockdown conditions, but he stayed happy in his seat in the trolley until we were queuing to pay, buoyed into good behaviour by the promise of a cupcake.
And the amazing news was that there were Soleros today - though four packs less by the time I had left the store.
It wasn’t stressful at all, though I feared my lollies might melt in the oven hot boot of my car.
I got the afternoon for writing, though the attic was too hot to work in and I elected to lie on my bed instead and came very close to falling asleep. But I trudged a little closer to the finish line. Perhaps a good day tomorrow will lead to a full first draft, though I have two chapters to go and the issue of what being a man means to face.
After getting the kids to bed, Catie was preparing for her podcast so I walked the dog again and was lured back into a showbiz Twitch stone clear. In an effort to confuse the FF I will be doing these unheralded and at unpredictable times every now and again. I had chased the dream of getting back to the basics of anonymous stone clearing and forgotten that fame and fortune is what it’s all about. You can catch up here.
I had a lot of fun appearing on Bilal Zafar’s Acting School of Excellence on Twitch . He’s someone who has really grasped the possibilities of Twitch and is pushing the envelope beyond simple gaming. It’s your own comedy channel and you can develop ideas over long periods of time (as this article discusses). I hope to see more comedians doing stuff like this and making a name for themselves and (once the book is finally done) I am going to start looking at other inventive ways to use the medium)
It was fun to be doing an hour of impro and we worked well together I thought.

You can watch it here or on youtube.
