I can't believe that my Talking Cock tour starts in a matter of days. Surely I only just finished the last one! But of course, the majority of gigs are in the new year, so it's not back to the relentless slog of driving and gigging and not much else just yet.
But I am still charged with the task of remembering the show (it's only five and a half weeks since I last did it, but it seems like a long forgotten dream already) and also with extending my Cock by 50% of its original length. Luckily for me the first couple of shows are at festivals where the slot is an hour, so I have another few days to think about what to add.
More importantly though I have been trying to find the clicker and the connector I need to make my powerpoint presentation work. I was pretty sure I'd put them somewhere safe when I got home, but I've been looking in all the more likely places over the last week and they hadn't turned up. The fact that the house has been turned a bit upside down with us moving things around (and getting things stuck in corridors) hadn't helped. Today I decided I'd better buy a new clicker and get it delivered by priority mail to ensure that the people of Liverpool get the full show without me having to press my computer space bar. I was fairly confident by making that decision that that would ensure I almost immediately located the lost one. And of course, my life being a poor sit-com that's exactly what occurred. It was still in the pocket of the rucksack I took to Edinburgh. I had intended to check there, but it had slipped my mind. Ah well, it will probably be useful to have two clickers on tour as my old and befuddled brain will surely lead to me losing or misplacing one of them between now and next June.
The gigs this month are all selling well, so if you want to come to Liverpool, Brighton, Sheffield or London please book now. The Manchester gig is sold out, though I will be back at the Lowry next year.
At the moment the tour looms ahead of me like a scary mountain with an evil wizard living in it- there are dark clouds covering the summit and lightning. I am sure I will enjoy the shows and I am looking forward to getting back on stage after this hiatus and like the tiny hairy-toed hobbit that I am I will doubtless get my ring burned eventually. It's just an intimidating thing to be on this side of it all. I suppose I should be used to it all by now, though unlike nearly everything else touring is one of those things that seems to get harder the more you do it. Not doing the actual shows- which I love more, mainly down to the fact that there are usually people in the audience now - but the rest of it. I will rise to the challenge as usual, just a bit more slowly, holding on to my knees and making an oooooh sound as I rise. Older, no wiser, just tireder.
At least I have two clickers though. Let's look on the bright side.
