Despite having lost about a stone in the first part of this year, I depressingly find myself ending December only about two or three pounds lighter than I was at the end of 2004. So I will go through the whole stupid rigmarole again no doubt only to end 2006 as a big fat pig. The inevitability of my failure is what makes life worth living for me. Nothing changes. We are just the slaves of our genes and might as well except our flaws and faults.
But ignoring that I am going to have a go at getting fit again for the New Year. I started early and headed to my gym for a swim. I noticed that they have installed an automatic front door that opens for you without any tedious pushing or pulling. Which possibly isn't the best thing to have in a gym. I mean, if you are too tired to open a door then you're hardly going to be in shape to lift some weights. But it's best that you don't get tired out before you've even started.
In the changing rooms there are regular lockers, but above them special smaller lockers that you can rent and have as yours for always. They are advertised with a sticker which asks the question "Tired of carrying your kit to the gym?"
Again if you find the act of transporting your sports clothes to the gym actually tiring then you're not going to be in much shape for going upstairs and doing a 2k erg test on the rowing machine. Surely the gym should be breeding an atmosphere where people are fit enough so that they can carry a T-shirt and some plimsolls around with them without needing to lie down. And open their own doors. But it's nice for them to cater for people like me who think that having a gym membership card is enough, but who don't really like having to go on all the complicated machines and stuff.
