I am not a massive fan of music, but I am enjoying introducing my daughter to new songs or finding ones she has enjoyed on the radio. Who Let the Dogs Out was one that spoke to her very early on - because it’s basically a kids song with shouting and woofing if you take it literally - and she really liked Raindrops Are Falling on My Head.
The other day she heard “My Boy Lollipop” in the car, liking the bit with Giddy up in it (she named it the giddy up song), so we’ve been playing that at breakfast and singing along. And Radio 2 played some Monkees this morning, in tribute to my favourite Monkee Peter Tork, which led me to play her “I’m a Believer” which unexpectedly choked me up - not because of the loss of Tork and Jones, but because I had forgotten that this was the song I played at the end of “What is Love Anyway?” and so it reminded me of falling in love with Catie.
It’s an amazing world we live in where we can call up pretty much any song we want whilst sitting at the kitchen table and Alexa gets the right track about three out of four times.
I suppose I’d better enjoy the period where we can happily sing along to the same songs - though I am still not allowed to join in with Let It Go which is a source of great sadness to me as I love it and despite my daughter’s protestations, it is I who is Elsa.
After a bit of a plateau the weight has started coming off again. Today I managed an enjoyable 35 minute run up the hill and then down through the woods and fields. I had thought that this might be a pleasure that I wouldn’t experience again, but I still have it in me and will be looking to build up to the 60 minute runs that helped me shift the weight back in 2014. I seem to have the momentum behind me this time. And with the bump that will come when the shops run out of food during Brexit, I hope I can be in similar shape to August 2014 when I go back to the Fringe.
We had our first look at a potential flat for this year. As I am planning on taking the family (and Catie is doing Drunk Women Solving Crime for the first part of the Fringe) the price of rental for a month would make your hair stand on end. But for once, if I can get good numbers for my afternoon slot, then I might be able to make enough money to pay for it this year. Going to take a good Fringe to put a dent in the losses I made in 2014 though!
Joining Richard E Grant on the 18th March RHLSTP will be the brilliant Tiff Stevenson - still a handful of tickets available.
And this coming Monday we have Suzi Ruffell and Joel Dommett, which will be awesome too. See it live, find out truth about Prince Andrew (maybe) and get to hear all the bits that get cut out for being too libellous or regretful.
