Woo hoo. Another fortnight in the EU. Take that Leaveophiles!
A Prime Minister resigning if she gets her way and not resigning if she fails? Parliament unable to say yes to even one version of what we do next!? Boris Johnson decrying May’s terrible deal and then suddenly backing it? Politicians insisting on following the will of the people, but not voting to stay in the customs union and clearly not intending to give loads of money to the NHS like the Leave campaign promised? Wanting to follow the will of the people but making no attempt to find out what that would actually involve?
Wasn’t the idea to try and move the UK towards being LESS of a laughing stock? No, I get it, I’m intrigued to see just how much of a laughing stock we can become. I’d push that way too if I had any say in this. I only regret not voting leave so I could say I kicked this thing off.
I’m starting to think that that original referendum was not detailed enough. Almost like there had to be more of a plan or something. Or a definition of Brexit beyond it being Brexit.
It’s almost like Remain was in fact the majority vote with the Leaveophiles actually voting for at least 10 different options, conveniently lumped together into one choice. Or inconveniently if you ever wanted to try and enact it.
Ah well. Fingers crossed we won’t be the ones that die.
As long as it’s either Hard Brexit or Hard Remain then I don’t mind. Anything else and I will be taking to the streets. We’ll have to fight about 11 different groups of people of course, so we’ll have to agree on team colours (cos we can join forces with some of the people who nearly think the same as us, before turning on each other near the end), but a good old-fashioned punch up is probably the best way to do this.
I am still hoping a grown up will turn up to take charge and point out a few truths, like, regardless of whether you want to Leave or Remain it’s clearly better to put things on hold until we’ve worked out what the plans are, that the will of the people has not been effectively canvassed and that in any case there should probably never have been a referendum about this anyway as it’s much too complex an issue for any of us to understand, let alone vote on. If the people in charge don’t know what we have voted for then we surely need a rethink.
What a horrible fuck up it is and sadly the damage has already been done. This isn’t going to go away in my (admittedly quite short) lifetime.
Still it’s great fun watching the disaster happen, though I’d prefer to be on the sidelines than caught up in the middle.
