We can basically make it about 9 or 10 days between supermarket shops, so it seems sensible to do a big shop about that often to reduce the risk of catching the virus. But I got a few askance looks with my full trolley, even though I'd been pretty sensible and not taken anything that there wasn't much of. Flour is so unavailable that they've actually started putting other stuff on those shelves and rice and pasta are also down to the weird stuff that people would usually never buy. Tomato ketchup and sunflower oil are also unexpectedly absent. And I have discovered that I am not the only person in the world who loves diet ginger beer (plenty of the non-diet variety) or the broccoli stir fry (I bet none of the other greedy fuckers have it for breakfast though).
I started to wish we'd been a bit better at hoarding, rather than just taking what we needed. My guess is that some of these items are not coming back for a good while. Surely the supply chain has to be hit by illness and the difficulty of exporting. But it's OK. I got plenty of other stuff. We're set for the next nine days. And the one out one in supermarket policy almost feels normal now.
Some people are now wearing masks, others are more blasé.
Other than that it was a day of looking after the kids, bookended by a dogless stone clear and the world self-playing snooker championships final.
I found a horseshoe right at the end of the stone clear, which I took as a rainbow of forgiveness from the Stone Gods indicating that the crisis is over and we can to back to our normal lives. It seems too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence.
Me 11 did a great job of refereeing the snooker final after Referee 2 got fired into the heart of the sun, but I am afraid some of the commentators (and to be honest myself) were guilty of sexually objectifying her. I don't recall any of us ever drawing attention to a previous Ref's walk and even though to all intents and purposes hers was identical, it seemed to get us hot under the collar. But we're 3 weeks into lockdown. Maybe that's taking effect. But I suppose it's sexist to compliment a woman for being sexy these days, is it?
It was a breathlessly exciting contest. You can still catch up with the match at http://twitch.tv/rkherring
And a 32 player tournament starts on Thursday at 7.30pm
On Wednesday at 8pm I will be doing a special live remote RHLSTP with the current Chortle Internet Award holder and creator of the Room Next Door, Michael Spicer. Tune in. It's free.
