Sunday 7th January 2007

Since evil Richard Branston took over my gym there have been a few changes. Thankfully the new naked girl in the men's changing room policy was short lived and has not returned, but slowly other alterations are sneaking in.
There is for example a different music channel on the TVs in the gym itself, with occasional Big Brother style announcements of how to keep fit. The station seems to favour certain musical artists and bizarrely the performer who seems to be on most is tiny Lowestoft crooner Lil Chris.
Both his new video and his previous one have been on the last two times I have been working out. I don't mind. I am a big fan of the diminuitive shouting imp. I find him highly amusing. I actually watched quite a lot of the Channel 4 programme that was his springboard to temporary fame and allowed myself to be manipulated by the producers who set up a false will-he/won't he storyline suggesting he might not make it into the final line-up. Obviously he was going to. He was easily the best singer in his school in Lowestoft.
His videos are a bit disturbing though, because although Lil Chris is 16 years old, he still looks about 11 and so it is a bit jarring seeing him winking at attractive women and asking me if I am "getting enough". He should be singing about how he enjoys watching American wrestling or playing British Bulldog, not appearing in a lewdly suggestive pop promo.
At the end of the "Gettin' enough" video he picks the girl out of the crowd that he has been flirting with and she comes up on to stage. Even though she is probably only 18, next to him she looks like she might be his mum and it is bizarrely inappropriate. Like she is some kind of awful paedophile praying on young boys. Any suggestion that this is a deliberate policy by Richard Branston to at least have some kind of paedophillic prescence in his gym will be strongly denied by me, but even though Lil Chris is 16 and thus legally allowed to suggest to a woman that he might be the one she should be gettin' enough with, common sense dictates that Lil Chris should at least wait until puberty kicks in before he starts trying to satisfy women, however much he can shout and give a leery wink.
I genuinely like Lil Chris and would ask him to be my myspace friend though at the moment the page won't load up properly. I just don't want to have to witness this strange unnatural spectacle whilst I am running on a running machine. Though perhaps I am just annoyed that a foetus faced 16 year old is showing off about "gettin' enough" when at his age I was three years off gettin' any and a good ten years from being in a position where I could claim to be gettin' anything like enough and then not in any consistent or reliable fashion.
And at what point will Lil Chris have to stop calling himself Lil Chris? I suppose it's a possibility that his career might be over by then. I hope not.
