Days Without Alcohol 24
Slept fine last night. Clearly I need to find a new way to unwind after my gigs. I hear that Amy Winehouse recommends crack. And you know what, as long as I am not drinking that is fine. And she's lovely and thin. Maybe she'll be bringing out a diet video soon.
I am in a bit of a weird position re Winehouse as it happnes. Just for fun some of my friends and I are having a little 2008 Celebrity Death competition. We have selected celebrities from a list, all with a price on their heads, depending really on how likely they are to go (the more likely, the more they cost), who we think will die this year. Some people have already taken an early lead as they plumped for Sir Edmund Hillary. I bet those bastards were punching the air when the news came through. Now Amy is on my list - I mainly chose her because she was pretty cheap and...well.. she seems to like taking drugs (I've got Pete Doherty too for the exact same reasons, though I think he will probably live to 90). But this puts me in the uncomfortable position of actually slightly hoping that things might go wrong for her, so that I have a chance of getting on to that leaderboard, with the all important prize of... well nothing. Just the satisfaction of being the best at guessing which celebrities on a list might die in the next 12 months. Does that justify any part of me even slightly hoping for the demise of a woman, who I have no other beef with? In fact I quite like her music.
You know most of me doesn't want her to die, but there is a tiny, tiny part that would be delighted. And I was more upset that I hadn't picked Hillary than I was that he died. Surely this isn't healthy.
Heath Ledger wasn't on the list and there's no way I would have picked him even if he was. No-one could have predicted that one. So I can be genuinely sad about it (as genuinely as you can be sad about the death of anyone that you don't actually know at all).
I am an evil man, but these days I have to get my kicks where I can. Pass me the crack pipe, I fancy a kip.
