Had an old school 2007 style night in with a pizza and booze and chocolate (yeah, I'm back on it, but I have it in control - I could give up any time) and DVDs. It was lush.
There hadn't been much in the DVD shop that I wanted to see, but finally plumped for "Magicians". I wasn't hoping for too much from it, to be honest, as it seemed to have come and gone pretty quickly from the cinemas. But I like Peep Show and the film is written by the guys behind that, who I think are brilliant and stars Mitchell and Webb who I like too, even if it should have been me and Stew doing those Apple ads.
So many British comedy films disappear without a trace and usually with good reason, because loads of them are really crap. You know, "Fat Slags" kind of crap, "Shooting Fish" kind of crap. But some good ones seem to get lost in the mix too. I thought, for example, that the League of Gentlemen film was much better than it got credit for and Magicians, too, is not bad at all. Maybe my expectations were low or maybe it was the booze or the chocolate, but I enjoyed it. I also watched Ratatouille, which was just childish. A cooking rat? I am 40 years old. Come off it.
I had had higher hopes for that film as it was by the team behind "The Incredibles" which I thought was pretty good, but this didn't repeat the magic.
It was really cool to have the night in and to pig out for once. Not so long ago a night like this happened maybe once a week and sometimes more - it's no wonder I got a little hefty. Once in a while it's a fun thing to do.
