Tuesday 26th August 2008

Spent the day a bit spaced out, due to tiredness I guess. Edinburgh followed by that long drive combined with me suddenly being in familiar, yet strange surroundings made the whole day a bit like being on some strange mind altering drug (I imagine).
Usually in the day or so after Edinburgh when one is walking around in London, one imagines that you see Fringe comedians in the street, only to realise that when they get closer they are just strangers who vaguely resemble the people you have got used to seeing around every day. This phenomenon was certainly happening today, but was made rather more strange by the fact that one of the first people I saw today looked very much like comedian Dan Tetsell and then turned out to indeed be him. I had seen him last in Edinburgh a week or so ago. And now here he was in London.
Not too much of a shock as he lives near me and was probably on his way home from the BBC, but still slightly mind-fucky to my already rather scatty brain.
Later I saw a bloke who looked exactly like Andrew Collings in a coffee shop. But this was not such a surprise when it turned out to be Andrew Collings, as we had arranged to meet up to discuss some podcast issues (the next one will be recorded and released on Thursday - it seems like ages since we did one. I am not sure I will remember how to do it).
We ended up going out for a pint, although somehow by 8 o clock we had had four pints. Collings doesn't usually drink, so I hope he got home OK. It was fun to socialise with my colleague, who has forty fans on Facebook. This page is unofficial and set up by someone else, rather than the Facebook hating Collings, who is pretending he doesn't want people to be his fan. But inside he craves your fandom, so do go and join the throngs. He only has about 1500 less fans than me. I mean I am not showing off. And it isn't a competition.
But I am clearly winning and am the best. Take that Collings.
I am taking it easy this week and don't think there will be much to write home about. I am thinking of doing another of my occasional organisational few days, where I try to get my house and my affairs into order. I always think it will be the last time and that from then on I will live a life of structure and efficiency.
But it hasn't happened before, so I doubt it will happen again.
But still it's a good way to piss away some time, before my inevitable death.
It's good to be home though and to have woken up in my own bed for the first time in over a month.
London town rocks, even when haunted by the ghosts of Edinburgh.
