Saturday 24th October 2009

I was feeling a lot worse this morning. It hadn't been helped by the fact that some people in the block of flats where my girlfriend lives (and I was staying) had formed some kind of rag-tag band and were raucously singing until past 3 in the morning. It was just far away enough that there was a possibility of sleeping through it, but just near enough that I found myself straining to listen to it, trying to work out what they were singing. The tunes were not ones I had heard before and from the snatches of the vocals that I could hear I think the songs might have been in Russian. It seems that every time I sleep at my girlfriend's there is some external cacophony to keep me awake, whether it be seagulls, inappropriately residing in Camden where there is definitely no sea, or people shouting out on the streets. I am beginning to wonder if my girlfriend is some kind of saboteur, perhaps hired by rival podcasters like Phill and Phil or Robbie Williams or Andrew Collings (I am sure it is him and it's him writing all that bad stuff about me on iTunes) and that these scenarios are all set up to keep me awake, make me ill and make me rubbish at doing my free podcasts. It would explain why my podcasts are so rubbish.
I don't think I am being paranoid.
I could really have done with a good night's sleep, but did not get one and so had little choice but to go back home and try and sleep all afternoon. So whilst I'd hoped I might have the best part of 4 days to get AIOTM 3 together I have only 2 days to do it. And am ill and have to do the Lyric gig tomorrow night. It's going to be another stressful and seat of the pants weekend. I literally have nothing for the script as yet.
Though on the way home I passed a guy with a T shirt that read white on black "Bombay Bicycle Club" and I wondered if he was a fan of the band or the restaurant or the gathering place on the Indian sub-continent where colonial officers would picnic in the 19th Century or if he was a member of a bicycle club that had been set up in Bombay, presumably before it was renamed Mumbai in 1996. I think the T shirt should have been more specific, perhaps having on the back a check list of all the options and a tick by the one or ones that the man was a fan of. If he was a fan of all those things then that is fine - all boxes would be ticked. But I needed to know. What if I went up to him thinking he liked curry, when in fact he was just a man who had enjoyed cycling in India in the early part of the 1990s? What if I went and sang him a song by the Bombay Bicycle Club and he looked confused and explained that he just loved colonial India and the picnics that British officers had used to have. The T shirt needed clarification at best.
But as I headed for my bed I felt happy enough, as I thought that at least I now had one idea for the show on Monday. Though through the cloud of tiredness and illness I can be less sure than ever that anything I am thinking is funny or whether it's just crazy.
You can listen to the first episode of 1990s Radio Show Lee and Herring's Fist of Fun on iPlayer . Suck my mother's homemade toffee!
In fact listening to it I might just copy all the jokes from this show for AIOTM. I don't think anyone will notice.
