My fifth podcast in six days as Collings arrived bright and early to record our 112th outing (available from the usual sources). I think even the most fastidious Richard Herring fan might be hard pushed to listen to over 7 hours (if you sat through the full 6Music show or 8 if you also saw the stand up set at the AIOTM recording) in a week. But well done if you managed it. There was only a minimum of recycled material, but I don't think even my fascinating existence can justify that much introspection. I will try not to do it again.
Evenso there was some fun stuff in the podcast- my favourite being the discussion of Tony Parsons' assertion that almost being burgled was worse than being raped. He had caught someone trying to hook his doorkeys through the letterbox using an adapted pole. I suggested that as Parsons uses his stretched anus as a letterbox that this crime had thus been equivalent to rape. I could have added that his anus is also responsible for producing much of his literary output, but that would have been ungallant. If nothing else we came up with a good idea for a theme for our next exclusive Collings and Herrin CD - Crime and Punishment and War and Peace. I don't know when we will get round to that, though we have been pleased with the response to Earth, Wind and Fire* (* and Water) so will keep them coming as long as you want them. And on that day back in January we actually recorded 5 podcasts in a day, which shits all over this week's achievement!
This evening I did my London book reading which was weirdly the worst attendance I have so far had this time round. Although there was only room for 40 in the tiny alcove that was set aside for me. But the intimacy probably made the whole thing better and it was cool to not have a three hour train journey home afterwards.
But there's still no rest for the wicked as I am up bright and early tomorrow in order to head off to Belfast to appear on the panel show, "The Blame Game". I had a conference call with the rest of the panel this afternoon and the question I am going to lead on is about Creationism and the Orangemen. That's not going to be at all controversial is it? The atheist Englishman coming over to Belfast trying to tell them about religion. As long as I am equally offensive about Protestantism and Catholicism then I should be OK and hopefully I can finally unite these warring Christians in mutual hatred of me. But the Irish are regarded as some of the best Christians in the world with their famous tolerance, meekness, turning the other cheek and loving their neighbours, so I should be fine.
