Friday 12th August 2011

Two great shows today - all the other stuff the same as yesterday.
I'd love to leave it there. I think I might.
No come on. You deserve more. But not much more.
I read back on the Warming Up from the same Friday from last Edinburgh and if your replace AIOTM with Richard Herring's Objective, it's almost the same day. I was similarly stressed and exhausted and similarly forgetful and clumsy. It's kind of comforting in many ways, because it feels like this is the first time, but to know I've done it all before and just forgotten how hard it is (like childbirth, except more painful and noble) means I can get through it all again.
And I am super lucky because although less people are coming to the podcast than I had hoped and although at times I feel like after 20 Fringes my main show should be sold out in advance, I am getting great audiences for both shows and I did still sell out tonight. And people really seem to be getting into both shows. There's a part of me that wants rave 5 star reviews, and I am only getting solid 4 star reviews, but it's churlish to complain about that (though in moments of weakness I do) and what's more important is that the audiences really seem to be enjoying what I am doing. And as always it's you and your support and your word of mouth that is going to be the making of me. I have the best supporters ever I think. And this was exemplified by an email I got which I think would have made the whole of Edinburgh worthwhile even if everything else had gone to shit (well maybe it wouldn't have made up for the loss of money, but it's still really lovely). Here it is and I hope the couple involved don't mind me reproducing it in full.
"Your Majesty The King of Edinburgh" Oh come on there's no need for that - where did that even start? It's insane.
"My wife (Natalie) and I had planned to make the trip to Edinburgh to see a show by some friends of mine (@thetourguide) and I got excited at the prospect of introducing her to your work by coming along to a podcast show at the very least.
Unfortunately I lost my job in July and despite our best efforts we had to cancel our trip last minute because we couldn't afford it. I was gutted.
Today my wife arranged for the kids to go to her Mum's house and she locked me in the front room whilst she worked on a little 'surprise' for me. I was hoping for a high backed armchair and a semi-circular toilet mat... But alas this didn't not materialise.
My wife had arranged the room like a comedy club, pinned posters on the wall and had the RHEFP playing on the laptop. She'd tried to cheer me up by bringing the festival to me!
To top it all off she had created the attached image on the wall.
If you get the chance in a future podcast please mention her brilliance and tell her how much I appreciate her efforts and how much I love her. Alternatively feel free to mock her for making a cut out Richard Herring to stick on our wall.
Can't wait to catch WILA in Notts on the tour. Thanks for COAB earlier this year and thanks for all the free stuff too. I think the new podcast structure and idea is great, especially the snippets from acts I've never heard of.
Ever your loyal subject (for the month of August only),
Andy"
I mean it's borderline insane, but it straddles the border with the land of lovely. And how awesome to be in the middle of this romantic moment for two troubled, but wonderful people.
And I thought after the inevitable and predictable and self-indulgent blogs bemoaning my fate (despite being one of the luckiest cunts alive) it's cool to share something slightly sick making and beautiful with you.
You people are nuts, but your strange devotion makes it partially worthwhile.
Listen to the podcast here. The more tired I get the more indiscreet I am becoming. God knows what I'll be telling you in a week and a half.
