The "Set List" excitement meant that I didn't get anywhere near enough sleep. I felt properly tired talking to Paul Provenza on today's podcast. Not that he was boring, quite the opposite, just his stupid show had emotionally drained me and excited my cerebral cortex and now I was finding it difficult to keep my eyes open. Which is a danger with Mr Provenza because you never know what he will do with his microphone. Listen to the show to find out what that is. As well as a load of interesting stuff about the mind set of the comedian. At least I think that's what in there. I was falling asleep.
We went out separate ways after the show but weirdly, due to the multi-layered and many streeted nature of Edinburgh, as I headed on to the Royal Mile heading in one direction, I bumped into Paul and previous guest Dave Fulton heading in the other direction. We chatted some more but were more interested in a couple of local Edinburgh residents who were performing street theatre for us, by shouting at each other from a distance, threatening to fight, but neither of them making any effort to head towards the other. They talked the talk, but didn't walk the walk. Because they were too drunk to walk. We suspected that they were friends, but they were publicly falling out and everyone was laughing at them, whilst trying to avoid eye contact, just in case they vented their fury. But they were ineffectual men who weren't hurting anyone, but themselves, with their prodigious day time drinking. They would kill themselves before they hurt anyone else. They parted with more threats. One of them was with two women (I like to imagine that he had stolen the wife of the other one), who also shouted after the man on his own, telling them they knew where he lived and so on. A lady came out of her shop and said, "Welcome to Edinburgh". Four stars.
I got on with putting the limited edition programmes into envelopes and posting off the first batch. If you donated please do make sure that you have emailed me your address. And if you already have sent me your address and don't receive the programme in the next couple of weeks let me know, as I think my computer might have sent some of them into my junk folder.
After my gig tonight I went to see my third show of the Fringe (that I wasn't in), Proctor and Gamble's Emergency Podcast (all right, actually Peacock and Gamble's Emergency Broadcast, but I don't want them selling any tickets). It was definitely in the top three shows that I have seen this year. It was very silly and in quite a few places it had me laughing til my tummy hurt, so well done to the two fat men who have copied me in everything they have done.
Unbelievably I still have 7 shows to do and also at least 3 extra gigs, but slowly but surely the Fringe is dragging to a close. I avoided the parties that were on tonight and came home early to sleep, but ended up watching comedians from this year's Fringe doing 5 mins each on BBC3 (how rubbish I am) and a Top of the Pops from 1976, where I couldn't stop thinking that the kids dancing awkwardly in the studio would now be in their 50s and 60s. I didn't remember much of the music either, though I remember 76 well. Mainly the ladybirds. I moved to Cheddar that year. Everyone looks uncool and most of the pop stars look like people's mums and dads. I wonder what they're up to now. Do they still own the jump suits?
Time you move on quickly, except in the last week of Edinburgh, which lasts forever. I may get home to discover that back on Earth years have passed by. Nearly there now.
