Thursday 9th January 2003

As I was getting off the tube at ShepherdÂ’s Bush (Hammersmith and Shitty branch) I saw that bloke who used to be on Byker Grove, but now presents CBBC (it is very wrong that a man of my age should recognise him, but that is my problem). You know the fella. He looks like a cross between Leonardo di Caprio and the Joker. It was about 6 o clock. HeÂ’d obviously just finished work.
And he was using the tube, just like a normal person
But he wasnÂ’t a normal person. HeÂ’s been on Byker Grove and also presented CBBC.
And IÂ’ve seen him in real life. ThatÂ’s right. Look impressed.
It struck me that he must have walked all the way down Wood Lane, a long and inhospitable road to get to the train station. I was going to shout at him “Don’t the BBC get you a taxi?” But I didn’t.
But itÂ’s bad that they donÂ’t. Unless of course he goes home to Byker Grove every night. It would be a bit much to expect the BBC to pay for his cab to Newcastle.
