Into town early today to appear on the Adrian Chiles show on 5Live, ostensibly as PR for the upcoming tour, but that didn’t get mentioned and the podcast itself was only briefly alluded to. It was fun to talk to Adrian and other guest Cindy Yu about the news, but it basically took up my whole day. I got home just in time to pick up my daughter from nursery and then look after the kids til tea-time. Another precious remaining day of my life blasted into the ether.
Ah, I would have wasted it anyway.
I was into London early so walked to Broadcasting House (and back) so managed to keep up my exercise despite not having a chance to walk the dog. I miss walking around London - too many people take the bus or the tube, but if you have 30 minutes spare you can get around in a more civilised fashion.
The security as Broadcasting House has been upped and they put your bag through an airport style scanner. I discovered that there were a pair of scissors in my bag, though I couldn’t find them when I looked and the lady let me through anyway and I promised not to stab anyone. If only all security guards could act on trust. But I didn’t stab anyone so her faith in humanity was restored. But to be fair, it was mainly because I couldn’t find where the scissors were.
After the show I went to Caffe Nero and sat near some paparazzi who, if my eavesdropping is to be believed had just been trying to get photos of Katy Perry at Wogan House. One of the guys recognised me (and I him) and we had a brief chat. He asked me if I was going to the BAFTAs next week, but I had to tell him that I wasn’t. None of the guys attempted to get a photo of me drinking my coffee, but I didn’t take it personally. They probably have a code where they don’t pap big celebs if they’re in the same coffee shop. I admire them for granting me that privacy. Even when I posed and shouted “Hey guys, this looks like a good photo,” they still respected my privacy.
They were discussing who was in town and who was coming and who was helpful with photos and who wasn’t and whether a photo of Will Smith was worth more or less than a photo of his son. I was fascinated about how they got their info about who was around when and thought that would be quite useful for me when I am trying to book my podcast. But I didn’t ask them. I am not sure I want Jayden Smith on RHLSTP anyway.
Who am I kidding? I’d love it.
It was a fascinating little glimpse into the lives of these guys. And even though they killed Princess Diana, I still liked them.
