It was cover reveal day for my new book “The Problem with Men”. How very exciting. You can see it (and preorder it) here (for example).
Crazy to think that’s hitting the shops in less than two months. There’s also a joke in it about being in the second lockdown whilst you’re reading, so fingers crossed that that comes true for maximum lols.
Talking of books from the less successful (but actually better) halves of 1990s double acts, I’ve really been enjoying Adam Buxton’s Ramble Book on audio (as I may have mentioned before) and got pretty close to the end on this morning’s dog walk. Though I generally find people discussing their musical taste to be about as interesting and relevant as people telling you about their dreams, Adam makes his love of Bowie (and others) a central plank of the book and it works and I am a bit more at home with the other very familiar bits of 80s pop culture, as well as his startlingly similar adolescence of over-confidence mixed with self-consciousness and his over romantic notions leading to the end of all his relationships. It will make you laugh and wince, but the real story is about him and his dad, which may make you cry. Very glad to see him getting some recognition for this. He is a good man and wears his flaws on his sleeve. He reminds me of someone. But he is better than that person in every regard.
The news that from next week only 6 people can gather indoors is terrible news for Ally and Herring’s Twitch of Fun which has a cast of at least 8 regulars. There are plenty of characters who could be chopped out for the benefit of the whole, but it’s tough to work out which ones should go. Tonight was a sprawling 70 minute affair, but with some new stings and some bits that approached being almost routines. There might even have been a joke
