Sunday 28th October 2007

On the way home from Bristol I bumped into my old friend Geoff Quigley at a service station. He's had a few mentions on here before, but this is probably the best story. I don't think I have seen him since Christmas Eve 2005, so it was a cool surprise to catch up. He was off to watch Spurs, who he is unlucky enough to support and I wished him luck with that, though correctly predicted that they would lose.
Later when I got into London I saw a van at a mini roundabout which would have reminded me of Geoff, even if I hadn't just seen him. It was for Snap On Tools. The reason this reminds me of Geoff is that when he arrived at Fairlands Middle School (he had moved down from Scotland, I believe, so already had do put up with the difficulties of being the new kid and having an unusual accent etc) he had a Snap On Tools promotional bag to keep his stuff in. It was still an over the shoulder bag like the Adidas bags that the rest of us had, and wasn't meant for keeping snap on tools in, it was just branded by that manufacturer. Of course to a gang of 10 year olds the phrase "Snap On Tool" had a potentially different meaning and I remember us relentlessly teasing (maybe even bullying) the new boy about his detachable penis, that could presumably snap on and off. I would imagine we made his life slightly Hellish.
Snap On Tools isn't a firm I have seen mentioned too often in the intervening years, so it was odd to see a van for them now. Good to know they are still going. And that their slightly stupid name has not led to them rethinking their branding. An odd coincidence to see the van today, within hours of seeing the man with the snap on tool himself.
How horrible we were as children. Still, snap on tool. Snigger.
In other news my friend Jane gave me a couple of enjoyable You Tube links today that I hope will give you some pleasure. This one is called Wedding Thriller and you'll see why. But this one is more bizarre. Presumably these guys have a lot more time on their hands, but it's hard to believe that they have been allowed to put all this together. They have both had a lot of hits, so you might have seen them before. But it's a nice reminder of how silly the world can be.
