If the people of the UK ever become refugees - which may not be likely, but is more likely than most people probably imagine - we are all totally fucked.
Britain (England really) is the worst. It's not the government's fault. They're behaving like this because the people who vote for them are so anti-immigration that they won't even give people temporary shelter in a war.  And yet would expect our neighbours to take us in if a war or pestilence or extreme weather or dirty bomb sent us running into their arms.
We are the definition of entitled. I feel we are going to get ours.

More child-wrangling today, which I do enjoy but which is extraordinarily tiring. I took Ernie to his gym class and then we had lunch together. We then had a quick dash round the supermarket, like we were trying to impress Dale Winton, before having to drive back to pick up Phoebe. Even though I'd taken Ernie to the loo at the end of the meal and he'd insisted he didn't need to go, at the check out he suddenly announced that he desperately needed a poo. The supermarket had no loo (well there's a staff one that we were once allowed to use, but that wasn't offered this time, the check out lady pointed us towards a public facility) so we dashed off looking for somewhere to go before we were hit by Poomagedon. How things had got so bad so quickly I don't know, but there was a definite feeling that we might be hit with a dirty bomb any second. In the end I went back to the restaurant we'd been in and hoped that the fact we'd dined there in the previous half an hour would still give us bathroom privileges.
They let us in without question (what a wonderful feeling it is for someone trying to escape from disaster to be welcomed so readily) and the bomb went off in a controlled explosion in the loo. It was an impressive size. It could have taken out the whole neighbourhood. As we were in Harpenden this might have been doing the world a favour though.

A new RHLSTP offshoot that's sort of come about by accident. Catie was doing an Instagram live chat about her new book, but the host dropped out, so I did it. It struck me that this is a nice format for a RHLSTP chat that's just about someone's latest book. So here is the first episode of what will probably be an occasional series, RHLSTP Book Club (RHLSTPBC) with Catherine Wilkins.
