Having seen my reply the man from the sports podcast company decided that it was best that I carried on doing the snooker without adverts in it. I can’t imagine what put him off. Ah well, we will have to wait for the snooker millions to come rolling in.

I was discussing the names of fruits with my daughter and how I liked that an orange was called an orange AND was also orange in colour. I wondered if we could do this with every fruit. Phoebe was sceptical. I told her a banana would be a yellow. “Isn’t a lemon also a yellow though?”
“No, lemon is a colour. That’s already part of the system.” So an orange would be an orange, a lemon would be a lemon and a blueberry would be a blue (well sort of).
“What about an apple?”
“That would be a green… or a red… or a yellow..”
“And a strawberry?”
“That’s also a red.. or a green if it’s not ready.” “Wouldn’t that be confusing? Loads of fruits are the same colour.”
“I don’t think so. You could go a greengrocers and say,. “Can I have a kilo of greens please?” And they’d say “These greens?” And you’d say, “No, no, those greens over there.” It would be a simple system.”
“Are vegetables included?”
“Yes, why not?”
“Aren’t most of them green?”
“Not sweet corn… unless it’s still inside it’s green sheath.”
“So that’s either green, if sheathed or yellow if not?”
“Yes”
“So the word for sweetcorn and banana would usually be the same?”
“You could call it a knobbly yellow or a knobby yellow.”
“So a pumpkin would be?
“A really big scary orange.”
“I don’t think this is going to work."
“All right, all right, we could do it the other way round - we could name all the colours after the fruit and vegetables. So you’d say “Can I have that asparagus coloured jumper please? No, not the broccoli one, I said asparagus.” You’d probably need to carry a colour chart around with you at all times so you could really differentiate all the greens from each other. But it would give us so many more colours to play with.”
“I’m out” said my daughter. But she’s not one of the official dragons and I will wait to see what they have to say about the idea.
