I had a chat with a researcher ahead of a quiz show I am going to be recording next month. I had to give myself a score out of 5 on individual subjects in terms of how confident I was that I was good at them. The thing about my general knowledge is that it’s good because I know a little bit about most things and in most shows (other than Pointless) you can make an educated guess about stuff precisely because you don’t know much about it. I said I was bad at Pop Music, Geography, Sport, Fashion and quite a few more and only gave myself four on history, film and TV. But then we did a little 20 question quiz to test me and even though I would say I only knew 4 answers for certain, I got 18 out of 20 by piecing together my basic knowledge - working out who DKNY was named after, even though I felt like I was 50% making it up, guessing what city Ajax played in, having a vague feeling about what country they were from and so on. I suspect that I had scored myself too low in my self-analysis, because I can muddle through in things that I think I know nothing about, but it was encouraging to have done so well. My brain still fires up on this stuff most of the time, but there’s always the danger that it remains dormant on the night. But I am greatly looking forward to the chance to prove myself on TV and the delight you will all have when I fail. The questions were much harder than I thought they would be. Which is worrying. But then again I got most of them right.
I then had a visit from a nice man called Tom who showed me how all the tech was going to work for International “When’s International Men’s Day? Day” on Sunday. To be honest I am not much the wiser so it’s lucky he will be there on Sunday to help.  We went live for a few minutes and six people tuned in as I asked Tom what the possibilities were beyond IWIMDD. We might be able to do a live feed of RHLSTP for example (though will that make the guests more guarded? Probably not - there are people in the room anyway so anything they say could get out into the public domain as it is), but just as excitingly it’s possible I might be able to do live snooker and stone clearing. If the people demand it. If people will pay to watch Limmy driving a pretend truck then surely they will want to be on board for real snooker and real stones. We’ll see.
It’s always a bit of a conundrum with filming RHLSTP as it costs us loads of money and we haven’t found a way to monetise it beyond asking the people who want to watch it contribute to kickstarters. That’s worked. But it’d be nice if it could pay for itself and I am sure there will be an audience of people who can’t make it to the theatre or get tickets to be a part of the live action.
For now just follow me if you’re interested and we’ll see how Sunday goes.
I am rkherring on Twitch if you want to follow me. And you can follow the action and donate via this page Amazingly we’ve already hit £1000 for Refuge even though I haven’t started yet. I  hope we can beat our record of £150,000. It'd be nice to go out with a quarter of a million. If we get a million then I might consider coming out of retirement next year. I hope that’s high enough a target to be safe from returning. Surely it is. But let’s see how much fun it is if you can see me doing it.
