OK, it's nearly over. Not too long to go now. Just keep going, the end is in sight. Oh I can't be bothered. Let me go to sleep.
It's those difficult, weary last days and much as I would like to get out in the world and get things done, it is very hard to get out of the flat.
However, I had to get out of bed at midday to head up to the Tron to be on Rhona Cameron's afternoon radio show. I arrived to find that her sitting on one of the sofas in the bar, with a headphone/microphone combo akin to something a helicopter pilot on her head, talking to someone who had phoned in - though I could only hear her side of the conversation. I had expected to be in a studio, but we were literally broadcasting from the bar, with people coming in and out buying drinks.
Rhona was similarly knackered, but we managed to get through our half hour relatively easily, discussing our somewhat similar life experiences having both recently got into our forties. It was quite an interesting chat, though because of the circumstances it was hard to remember that our conversation was being broadcast on the radio. Rhona and me were so similar that I even suggested we should maybe marry each other, though she didn't seem keen for some reason - don't know why.
Apart from that I did nothing except eat, lounge around, finish off doing the limited edition programmes (as long as I had your address you should have them by early next week - apologies to Angela Johnson who I met tonight who I had inadvertently left out of the programme despite her £16 donation - hope this mention goes some way to making up for it) and watch Hollyoaks again - to the increasing incredulity of my flatmates who don't know what I see in the show - well I think they do know, but they try to draw a veil over the slightly different plot-lines that are playing out in my head (incidentally one of the Hollyoaks writers came to my show the other week and I have emailed him my idea of having a fat 40 year old character who comes to Chester and gets off which each of the female characters one by one and he said he would pitch it at the next meeting, so fingers crossed for that one).
The show was quite hard work, though numbers were up on yesterday and hopefully the weekend will be better still, as long as the Ricky Gervais effect doesn't ruin everything for everyone - in case you don't know he is playing Edinburgh Castle to 8000 people at £37.50 a pop. I can't help but think that this will have a detrimental effect on all the other shows that are going on and his decision is causing some resentment. After all he could come up any time and sell 8000 tickets, so why come and steal from poor comedians who are already losing money? He has also paid for a billboard on Princes St informing everyone that he has already sold out, with the tagline "What a pointless billboard!" I don't find this funny - it's somewhat derivative of
Tim Vine's much wittier attempt last year, but it's also a slightly obnoxious waste of money. I think Gervais or his people have misjudged things rather badly. Not that it will make much difference to his popularity, but I think the whole faux arrogance thing is wearing a bit thin. My comments about him in the show seem to go down very well, so I am not the only one thinking these things. He's only taking ab out £300,000 on the door for this gig though, so you can't knock him too much. The cunt.
I got way too drunk after the show. It was good.
