My son impressed me by pointing out that the woman on the five pound note is called Elizabeth. He then turned it over, pointed at Winston Churchill and said “and that’s her husband”. 28 years old he is.

If you know me at all then you’ll know how much I love doing the bins. So imagine my distress when, on Tuesday, our food waste bin disappeared. I didn’t think anyone had stolen it. Due to being tossed around by the bin men (and on one occasion me) it was very nearly in two or three pieces and only just worked as a bin. I suspected that the bin men had picked it up and it had fallen apart and they had thrown it away. But how much would it cost me to get a new one and how long would I be without a food waste bin and where would I put my food waste in the mean time? These are the kinds of questions that I could lose sleep over.
On Wednesday I emailed North Herts council to tell them of the loss. They came back pretty fast and told me that they’d replace the bin and it would be with me within five working days. I still had the possibility of a bin collection with no food bin, but was still impressed. I could probably squirrel my food bags in to other people’s bins.
Today the new bin arrived. That’s crazy efficiency from a council. I may have slagged them off in the past, but whoever is in charge of the bins deserves a raise. Credit where it is due. Well done North Herts Council. I am wondering if the binmen actioned a replacement too and whether that means another bin will arrive, but that would only be good news. With two food waste bins I could rule this town. Imagine the mayhem I could wrought.

We’ve been having some problems with the internet at the house which is really screwing up podcasting at the moment. Tonight’s Twitch of Fun was buffering wildly for live viewers, meaning they were still 30 mins in the past by the time I finished. I could see them discussing stuff that to me happened ages ago. It was like I was in the future and travelling back in time. I could actually have messaged them to let them know the future. They could bet on a horse race or something (if there was one running at that time). We could have made millions. Sadly I was too frustrated by the whole thing to think of that and even though I was recording it for future viewers who would not experience the buffering, it still took the wind out of my sails a little bit and it was a bit of a lacklustre performance. I think there were still some good bits and some funnily bad bits, but it’s a shame that the tech is suddenly letting me down. I then tried to watch some TV afterwards but that’s streamed via the internet too and it was buffering so much that the shows became unwatchable. I did a speed test and things seemed fine, so I don’t know why the coverage has turned so weird. It’s lucky this didn’t happen during lockdown.
Anyway hopefully we can find a solution. The show will be up in the usual places on Friday so you can judge the punctured performance for yourself. There will be no buffering in the recorded version, though maybe we should offer an alternate show where you can experience the real deal.
