Gyles Brandreth has admitted that he encouraged Rod Hull to go up on his roof to adjust his aerial on the day Rod fell off the roof and died. He murdered not only Rod but Emu that day. And possibly claimed a third victim as he talked to Harry Secombe, just before the fall downstairs that was to lead to his death. This is the biggest celebrity murder case since CJ pushed that guy into the canal. It's amazing that Gyles has a modus operandi for his killings and no one is safe from him. If I die from a fall after talking about this, please call the authorities.
Down to (almost) Southampton today for the final preview of Can I Have My Ball Back before the tour starts in earnest.
http://richardherring.com/ballback/tour. It was a gig in a theatre on the grounds of a school in Hedge End.
It continues to feel much more relaxed than a RHLSTP tour - I fell asleep on the drive there (I wasn't driving), but it's been a tough week of dealing with an ill Victorian urchin (he's back to being his usual rambunctious self, but still off school, so he couldn't be happier). The show is pretty much there, but I am still coming up with new ideas and really need to nail down the second half. There were a couple of hundred people in again, which is fantastic for a preview in a small town (admittedly right next door to Southampton, but I don't think I've generally sold that well down here before). This might not be the case throughout the tour, but it's been a good start. The show is becoming about how my near death experience taught me not so much what was important as what was not important. And I am more relaxed about sales than I have been in the past (though clearly not entirely relaxed). But my perspective on this kind of stuff has definitely shifted and I am realistic about what I can achieve in the wintery autumn of my life. And what I want to achieve too. Hopefully success won't come along to fuck up this sweet little gig I've got for myself. So thanks to you all for knowing how good I am, but keeping it secret.
People are keen to share their own stories after the show, usually with much more serious things than I've gone through. It's great to talk about this stuff and also good to listen and the people who hang around for selfies or to buy a book have been very enthusiastic about the show. Do spread the word if you've seen it and enjoyed it.
