This happened more than twenty years ago now, but I wondered if she ever thinks about it. Perhaps waking in a cold sweat as she recalls the awkwardness. I mentioned her in the podcast, so hopefully she will listen.
Another terrific night of RHLSTP with a sold out room (at last) to see Tim Key and Davina McCall. Davina was nervous before the show, wondering why I had booked her, as a non-comedian. I might not have dared to ask her had I not tried to get her for the Tunbridge Wells gig, which she couldn't do, but I am glad she was keen to do it elsewhere. She is a remarkable woman and was a brilliant guest who is a lot funnier than she thinks she is! But also has a very inspiring life story and is very honest and open, so she was the perfect guest. I got an exclusive story that she's never told before too! Absolute delight to meet her, though as I told her, we had conversed before as I was standing behind her in the queue for the cafe at the London Studios back in the early 2000s when she got the call to let her know that Nasty Nick had left the Big Brother house. I said to her "Has he gone?" and she confirmed he had. So I was one of the very first people in the world to know this news. It's my greatest claim to fame.
Timkey was his usual self - funny, but inexplicably so and his new anthology Chapters is a fantastic read, even if I pretended to dislike all poetry in the chat. This one will go up next Monday as a book club - the Davina one will be out in a few months!
Very few tickets left for next week's London show with Joe Wilkinson and Julia Sawalha.
