Ooo eee Rick (I am proud to have taught my daughter to say that - hope that makes up for everything Mr Poopy Butthole), we launched our 2017 Kickstarter tonight and I think it's going to be the best one yet. The main reward (and in a sense as much a part of the kickstarter as the podcasts) is a brand new Emergency Questions book with 275+ Christmas Questions and another 225 regular questions. I have written it already (unlike last time) so can confidently predict that it will spice up your Christmas. Kickstarter copies will be delivered in time for Christmas presents - can't guarantee that will be the case for any we sell afterwards on the website (and if the kickstarter fails then it might never exist anyway). And if you want a signed or limited edition copy then be quick - the ones from the last kickstarter were selling for a good profit on eBay. And the Executive Producer credits have all gone already (though you can still become a Supreme Executive Producer).
Chris Evans (not that one) made the site live at 9.30pm and by the time I went to bed, we had already raised about a fifth of the £50,000 target, which is just amazing. I think it's fair to say that the Emergency Questions books are becoming a bit of a phenomenon and I am delighted that previous sales have already paid for series 11 and things are looking good for series 12. It's extremely exciting that this is somehow becoming a viable business model and that people are still happy to fund this nonsense. Not counting my chickens quite yet, but these Emergency Questions books do feel like something special
We are also working on an app and today (when I should really have been rewriting my sitcom) I wrote 100 Emergency Questions for kids and about 40 (with 60 more to do) suitable (and unsuitable) for dating. We are just working out the kinks for the app which should be available this month.
It'll be nice to be able to safely play the game with the children in your life (although there are some racy questions about farts and cat wee), though this slightly complicates the app, which up to know just generated random questions from any that you had downloaded. I think kids will get a lot out of these and they are also much better at coming up with questions than adults are. You need a childish brain to get these right. I think I must have one as I think I've done well with the kids' ones (also suitable for big kids).
But I am massively enjoying doing these and I have made a good start on what could be a couple more books. And I did a little bit of work on the sitcom, which I should probably be focusing on really….
All the details of this stuff and of my upcoming Radio 4 sitcom, Relativity (that starts next week) are in the latest newsletter
Chris Evans (no, not that one either) has also put up a couple of the first episode sketches on our youtube channel. So spread them if you like them!
