Amazing to get my son back into soft play. It was quite regulated (though most families ignored the rules) and for a select few only, but nice to get this back. I do feel certain that stuff like this will lead to a second wave, but nice to have a couple of weeks of freedom first. Kids don’t self isolate and a lot of parents didn’t wear their masks. The place we were at did their best to keep it safe, but we’re all getting complacent and I think as autumn approaches and stuff moves indoors more that this will fuck us. But look, I was still there, still letting my son run around with other kids. And enjoying him having fun.
He disappeared round a corner at one point and I couldn’t find him for about two minutes, which was weird as I’d been right behind him. Finally I saw him two levels below me climbing up the stairs to the big slide. I told him to wait, but he didn’t listen and saw me chasing after him as a game. He pushed in front of everyone at the top and shot off down the slide. I angrily followed him and apologised for pushing in, but in my haste was still more or less on my feet as I got on to the slide and slipped down banging my back against the hard plastic with a nasty jolt. I wasn’t sure if I’d hurt myself badly or not, but still tried to get up too early in my haste to catch my cheeky son and hurt myself again. Never soft play angry.
Luckily aside from the initial spasm of pain through my shoulders and joints I was more or less OK. Maybe Coronovirus isn’t the main danger we have to face.
And after all those months of looking after the kids indoors in our own house it’s so wonderful to get out and about. Even if it is going to force us back inside/kill us eventually.
2021 is going to be much worse for us than 2020. You know that don’t you the UK? And the USA unless you pull yourselves together. And everyone because it going badly for the USA is bad for everyone.
I was looking after the boy for most of the day and after seven weeks of summer holidays and coping with the two of them, it was relatively easy to be one on one. We had to go back to the garage to get my tyres changed and this took a lot longer than I had imagined. I have spent nearly 7 hours sitting in the reception of that place this week, over two of them with a two year old and hardly anything to do. He was surprisingly well behaved though. I should probably have made him run riot to get seen to more quickly.
I was glad to have the boy with me though as it meant I didn’t get bothered by a boring man who was very keen to talk to anyone about how he didn’t particularly care about cars as long as they got you from A to B and started when you wanted them to and stopped when you wanted them to. For someone who didn’t care about cars he then talked about them a lot, to a man who politely answered him, but basically saying he wasn’t interested in cars either every time. I would have felt sorry for the guy who was now stuck in this chat with an incredibly boring stranger had he not been wearing his mask under his nose. He deserved everything he got. Apart from Covid. I am not saying he deserved to die. The boring man worried about the logistics of electric cars. The bad mask man said he had never thought about it. It was like having my teeth pulled out and I was just listening.
They were both older gentlemen and as usual I wondered at what point this starts happening to you and when you can no longer filter out your dullest thoughts and not spot that you are boring people.
Then I remembered about my blog and realised it was too late.
And tonight the self-playing snooker kickstarter kicked off. You're not allowed to do charity on Kickstarter apparently, so let's say we are investing all the profits from this one in live comedy and helping the comedy clubs to ride the storm they're in and hopefully get to open again. So the money is not for us (though we have to pay for reward production and VAT and Kickstarter's percentage). The rewards are, I think, the best yet - lots of stuff, but mainly an ambitious Punani sticker album with 40 stickers to collect and swap. We need to raise (at least) £20,000 in a month and made a good start tonight, getting to about £2500 in a short time. Hopefully we can make a lot of money with this one as live comedy really needs it.
Check out the rewards here. I appreciate some of you have given to many things recently, so don't feel you have to (but as always I hope the rewards will accrue in value for you)
