I got three letters all delivered together from the NHS informing me about appointments. The only problem was that all the appointments already happened in January. Also I had been informed several times about these appointments by email and text.  Two of them were just phone appointments anyway, so chances were I'd be around to take them even if I hadn't already known they were happening. But receiving letters about them two or more weeks after the date of the consultations was definitely not necessary.
I know the NHS is in trouble, but it seems they could save a bit of time and money by not sending out letters to patients. Especially if they are sending them out after the appointments have happened.
I've had a look around the app and seen if there's anyway I can opt out of physical mail, but can't see it if it's there. I'd definitely like to opt out of getting mail about stuff that's already happened. I know this won't have cost them that much, but however much it was it is time and money that could have gone on something else. Even if I had been someone relying on snail mail (and let's face it, at my advanced age that's a possibility, along with me loving Vera Lynn records) then the letters would not have done me much good, unless I also had a time machine.
But what kind of person with access to a time machine would use it for something like this and not lend it to the NHS so they could go back in time and tell people who have died of terminal illnesses to get to the hospital straight away and save their lives.
I am not saying that unneeded stamps would cover the cost of the research and technology to make a time machine of some kind, but it'd be better than spending it on letters that get to the recipient late. Also it would mean that the letters could also be sent back in time and thus hopefully arrive on time this time.
Just trying to do my bit, Keir. Hope you have time to look into this idea. And if you don't cos you've got anything on this weekend, then if you later invent a time machine, you can travel back in time and look into it. Good luck mate. We're all really proud of what you're doing and what you've achieved in this first year in charge.
