I drove to Bedford today to get a cracked windscreen replaced at Autoglass repair, Autoglass replace. I was using the replace function. A mystery crack has appeared in the corner of the windscreen. No one is owning up to causing the crack, (perhaps it was caused by a Tik Toker walking on the car) and it wasn't actually impeding on vision, but it seemed to be slowly creeping and I'd rather get it fixed than risk something happening when we are driving.
Also there is an annoying chip in the screen from when a tiny piece of stone tried to attack me (not all stones approve of my stone clearing work so it was definitely an assassination attempt). That one did keep distracting me and stealing focus. So it'd be an added bonus to get rid of that.
Also it's just nice to get out of the house and meet new people. And to have something to blog about. Did I break the windscreen just to make this happen? I don't remember it, but it could be a Fight Club style scenario. Is there a film in this? Windscreen Club? Will give it a go.
Life has got pretty dull when having a windscreen replaced is an exciting day for a blogger, but there we go. The high-octane life of sex and drugs that you enjoyed reading about in 2003 is over. And to be fair, that wasn't in this blog. But those heady days of buying more yoghurts than a cashier expected or fighting a University lecturer could not last forever.
I was impressed with the service - everything was carefully explained to me beforehand and I had the choice of waiting in the waiting room on this industrial estate or taking a walk through the countryside and round a lake to a cafe. I took this option and it was a pleasant way to spend the morning, walking round a lake (which apparently was once the site of a Roman villa) and having a coffee alongside the kind of people who have nothing better to do than go an artificial lake in Bedford for a drink.
And as I did my admin, some Bedford men fixed my car. It was quite a day.
A couple of hours later and I got a call to say the car was nearly ready. It's an impressive operation and beyond my understanding and abilities. You'd think that it would take longer than this to replace something as integral and complex as a windscreen, but it was all ready to drive away in. The only thing I wasn't allowed to do was pressure wash the windscreen in the next 24 hours. From the state of the car it should have been pretty obvious that I wasn't the kind of person who was itching to clean it.
I missed the chip on the way home. Might have to chip the windscreen myself again so I can see it again.
